Plantar Warts –Removal
Related to country: United States

Plantar warts are small bumps that are formed under the foot and are caused by human pappilomavirus which is also known as the HPV. Though this wart does not cause any serious health risk but it is better to get it treated so that you don’t have to undergo any painful symptoms and to reduce transmission. Wart takes about 1-20 months to develop so it is difficult to diagnose from where you got it. They are transmitted through direct contact with the virus. The virus that causes these warts dwell in damp, warm, moist and wet areas.

Apart from shoes, swimming pools, public shower, warts can also be transmitted from person to person contact. The chances of developing warts are higher if you have dry and cracked feet. Though not everyone is vulnerable to plantar warts but the more you are exposed to the virus the higher is the chance of you getting it. These warts usually go away on their own, however if it is painful then it is better to remove it instead of waiting for the wart to go away. Why endure the pain if you can get rid of it this instantly! But before you get rid of the plantar warts, it is suggested that you consult your doctor.

Unless you are pregnant or suffering from diabetes or have a weak immune system you can safely remove the plantar warts with over the counter medication though strictly under the instruction of your doctor.

There are various ways of getting removing plantar warts some of which are as follows:

   1. Salicylic acid: By using the salicylic acid, you can remove the plantar wart in 4 weeks time. You will have to carefully apply the acid on the wart regularly and rub off the dead skin with a pumice stone. You may be required to apply the solution twice a day. While applying make sure that it doesn’t get into the clear skin as it may cause irritation.

   2. Freezing: This method is also known as cryotherapy and is one of the most common ways of treating plantar warts. This method requires frequent visit to your doctor. Your doctor would freeze the plantar wart by applying liquid nitrogen. However, this method is rarely used in children as it could be painful at times.

   3. Duct tape: Using duct tape method for removing the wart is more effective than any of the above mentioned methods. Apply the wart with the duct tape and leave it for 6 days. After that wash the wart and let it dry, then you can remove the dead skin.

   4. Laser surgery is another method of removing the duct tape but it is a little expensive.

However, prevention is always better than cure. Always wear a sandal or a shower thong while using the public shower. Drying your feet properly after swimming, changing your socks regularly, etc are some of the things that can be done to prevent plantar warts. Since plantar warts are viral they can easily spread all over your feet and hands, so getting it treated at the earliest is a must.
